Kidding about What?

Oh, heh, evidently there's some kinda guild hall style or something in GW2 called 'City of Gold' and after the guild trekking last Sunday the guys were discussing who liked which guild hall style best and I irreverently said whichever one sounds best when preceded by 'Tarzan and the' and, well, ya kinda had to be there, and in addition ya probably kinda had to be me to find it funny.

Anyway, Tarzan and the City of Gold is a rip-snorting Tarzan adventure the likes of which the movies have never and probably will never capture with any degree of authenticity.

Random and Pointless Tarzan trivia:

Tarzan never said "Me Tarzan, you Jane" or anything like that in the novels. Tarzan taught himself to read English from books (including primers) he found in his parents' cabin. He learned to speak French from (drum roll) a French guy he rescued in the jungle.

Tarzan never had a pet chimp named Cheeta. He had a little monkey buddy named Nkima.

I have read it.

And many other 'Tarzan and the...' stories.

Ermahgerd, somebody that's not me who has read Edgar Rice Burroughs! Africa! Barsoom! Pellucidar! Amtor! Caspak!

Probably read Andre Norton, too. And maybe even Robert E. Howard's extra-Conan-icular material... ?

Sure, I'm a F&SF addict.
I know Simon Tregarth and Kull and Cormac. I know Morgaine, who you should, if you don't, and Chanur. I remember C'Mell and how she was lost. I'm currently re-reading Paksenarrion, and deeply in love with all things Liaden.

Me, too.

I stood beside Hosteen Storm on that little patch of Terra in the subterranean gardens of the Old Ones on Arzor, and I know why, in Ulthar, which lies beyond the River Skai, no man may kill a cat. When Jane and Silver took up busking, I threw coins in their cookie jar. I ventured into Maple-White Land with professors Challenger and Summerlee, stepped through the rainbow ring with Bob and Pete in search of Doc Tom, and had a drink with that Popinjay fellow at the Crystal Palace, back when Chrysalis still ran the place.

This is fun. You other kitties out there quit that lurking and join in!

Excellent!
Have you tried juggling with Lord Valentine? I tried walking the Pattern, but it threw me off. I've negotiated with Retief (on His side, never negotiate against Retief!) Louis Gridley Wu's trip to the Ringworld was fascinating - I need to do that one again, sometime.
I believe Sleepy has been to Ulthar, also.

We must be the onliest readers here, Fireheart!

Perhaps.
Or we may just be the only ones that visit these forums at all regularly. On the other hand, I realize that I'm currently reading 3 books at the same time... that might drive anykitty crazy. Happily, I'm having no trouble keeping Regis Hastur separate from Eric Banyon and my latest Terry Pratchett madness can't be confused with anything else.

Currently reading yet another Cthulhu mythos anthology...

When I became aware of the new Tarzan movie, I had hopes that its makers would forego retelling Tarzan's origin and let it just be a fun Tarzan movie, set after the events of the first two novels, and thereby avoiding many standard Tarzan movie errors, excepting, of course, the risible but by now ubiquitous vine-swinging, but alas, they are indeed retelling the origin, albeit probably in flashback. And -- and! -- they're breaking new ground in the error department: in this movie, when Kala claims baby Tarzan as her own, her natural baby is STILL ALIVE and hanging onto her back. Brilliant, movie people! Brilliant! /e tips hat /e puts on hat first, then tips it
